Free Cab Rides Home Thanksgiving Eve In Terre Haute

November 23, 2011

Thanksgiving Eve is a night most people arrive to holiday destinations to visit and eat with friends and family the next day. Since most people don’t have to work the following day, the excitement of the upcoming holiday can often lead to heavy drinking. That is why, according to the Tribune-Star, the local Terre Haute, Indiana, law firm Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos, & Newlin are offering free cab rides home for anyone who may have had too much to drink.

The rides are part of the firm’s commitment to their Safe and Sober campaign, which is an effort to end drunk driving in the area. The law firm feels if they don’t have to pay for a ride, the intoxicated individual will be less inclined to get behind the wheel.

Rides will be available form 8:00 PM this evening, until 3:00 AM Thursday throughout Terre Haute and West Terre Haute. Rides will be given from a restaurant or bar to a person’s place of residence, not another place to drink. Also, because of the high number of rides given last year, the firm asks that you call at least 30 minutes in advance of when you want a ride. Cabs can be reached by calling Yellow Cab of Terre Haute at (812) 478-5000.

The Indiana Auto Accident Attorneys with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin would like to urge everyone to have a safe and happy Thanksgiving by refraining from getting behind the wheel if you have had too much to drink. In the words of founding attorney, Steve Fleschner, “Don’t let yourself, or someone you love, become another statistic.”

Medics Uncover Growing Problem WIth Private Ambulances

June 15, 2011

The voices of medics across the state of Indiana are being heard as they shed light on a secret practice. Nursing homes are calling private ambulance companies, sometimes miles away, instead of dialing 911 in life threatening situations.

13 Investigates uncovered the story of an Indianapolis woman who died after going into cardiac arrest and waiting close to a half hour before a an ambulance arrived.

The report stated that the woman went into cardiac arrest around 8:15 PM on March 5. The nursing home the woman was living in called their private ambulance company, but was told it would be 20-30 minutes before they would arrive. Experts say the dispatcher should have realized this was too long to keep such a critical patient waiting and should have recommended the nursing home call 911 to alert an ambulance crew that was only five minutes away. Instead, he scrambled a crew from across town in order not to lose the run and the dollars associated with it.

“Unfortunately, private services, more at the management level, are so money driven, so hungry for being for-profit companies, that they will do everything in their power to not turn the run.” one medic explained.

If one of your loved ones has suffered because of a nursing homes lack of action during a medical emergency, contact an Indiana Medical Malpractice Attorney. The lawyers with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin may be able to clarify your rights and help ensure you are compensated by those found responsible

Two Killed In Crash Involving Minivan and Semi Truck

June 8, 2011

A Coles County roadway was the scene of a grisly accident, between a semi truck and a minivan, which took the lives of two teens from Mattoon, Indiana. Terre Haute News Channel 10 reports that the accident happened on Indiana Route 316, just west of Coles County Road 1100E.

According to officials a minivan driven by a 26-year-old woman and carrying seven passengers was traveling eastbound on the roadway. The driver attempted to pass another vehicle and lost control of the vehicle. The van ended up in the westbound lanes where a passing semi truck was unable to avoid smashing into the vehicle, and hit the rear passenger side. The Van then rolled and came to a halt after sliding into a ditch.

Two teen passengers in the van were declared dead on the scene. All other passengers in the van, including four children under 8-years-old, were transported to a local hospital to be treated for injuries. There is no report on the condition of the truck driver, as the crash is still under investigation.

Crashes like this occur everyday. After an accident, many survivors and their families ponder the same questions regarding what to do next and what will happen with their case. An Indiana Auto Accident Attorney will be able to clarify many of the questions a victim may have. The Attorneys with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin, say there are several important steps to follow following an accident.

Social Security Benefits Gone By 2036

June 1, 2011

The Social Security Board of Trustees released their annual report on the status of Social Security Trust Funds in mid-May with bleaker findings than expected. They estimate that the combined assets of the Old-Age and Survivors Insurance, and Disability Insurance (OASDI) Trust Funds will be completely depleted by the year 2036. That is one year sooner than was calculated last year. The study also found that the DI Trust Fund will be gone after 2018, causing a need for immediate legislative action. This means that the equivalent of close to $6.5 trillion in present value dollars would have to be raised over the next 75 years in order to pay out on all benefits.

Micheal J. Astrue, Commissioner of Social Security, was quoted in the press release as saying, “The current Trustees Report again reflects what we have long known to be true — we need changes to ensure the long-term solvency of Social Security and to restore younger workers’ confidence in the program.”

157 million individuals had earnings that were covered by Social Security benefits in 2010.

See the report here.

With benefits drying up at a faster rate than expected, those filing claims will likely find it more difficult to receive benefits. The processes will become more complicated and the denial process can become very drawn out. If you are filing a social security claim, contact the Social Security Disability lawyers with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin. No Increase In Social Security Payments Again This Year

May 25, 2011

It looks as if recipients of Social Security benefits will go another year with no increase in benefits. According to an article from the Associated Press, the government is expected to give the first cost-of-living adjustment (COLA) since 2009; however, rising Medicare premiums will erase any increase in payouts. This will leave millions of retired and disabled individuals with no increase in Social Security benefits for the third year in a row.

Law states that these COLAs are to be determined each year by the government based on rates of inflation. In other words, when prices go up, so do payments.

About 45 million people receive both Medicare and Social Security. Most will not see a drop in payments due to the rising health care premiums because they are protected by hold-harmless provision, which ensures that payments will not decrease.

The trend is expected to only get worse. In fact, the government expects by the year 2078, retirees will be spending one-third of their benefits on Medicare premiums and their Medicare prescription drug program.

As benefits slowly begin to dry up, receiving them will become increasingly difficult. The Indiana Social Security Disability Lawyers with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin can answer many of the questions you have about your benefits in a simple, straightforward manner. See some of the frequently asked questions they receive here.

Wild Dogs Attack Indiana Woman

May 17, 2011

Wild dogs are becoming more commonplace across Indiana and are becoming bolder in their attacks on humans, especially children.

Take for instance the case reported by Newsgroup KSDK5, of a pregnant Indiana woman who suffered more than 50 puncture wounds from an attack by four wild dogs. In a much grimmer scenario, Fox News ran a story of a Georgia couple mauled to death by a pack of wild dogs. If these wild dogs can kill an adult couple, imagine the damage they could do to a lone child.

How should you go about protecting yourself and your children from attacks by dangerous animals like wild dogs? If you see a strange dog with no identification, do not approach it. Call your local Animal Control center. Also, never let a child approach an unknown dog without adult supervision.

If you are ever attacked, you should contact an Indiana Dog Bite Injury Lawyer to assist you. The attorneys with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin have handled many Indiana dog bite injury cases, and we can help you too.
