The driver of a fuel tanker was killed after an accident occurring early Wednesday morning in Speedway, Indiana. Roads were closed for hours due to the fuel spill that resulted from the crash. According to WISHTV8.com, the accident occurred in just after 12:30 AM on Crawfordsville Road’s I-465 entrance ramp.
The crash occurred after the driver of the fuel tanker lost control and slammed the vehicle into a concrete road barrier. The impact of the crash flipped the truck and crushed the cab, killing the driver inside. Approximately 3,000 gallons of unleaded gasoline leaked from the truck’s 20,000 gallon tank into a nearby drainage ditch. Drivers were urged to avoid the area while experts worked to remove remaining fuel from the tanker and transport it to another area. Police expected the roadway to reopen by noon Wednesday.
A representative of the company the driver was working for was present at the scene of the accident, but declined to comment on the circumstances of the Indiana truck accident.
