Attorney Anthony Tanoos Awards First Annual Travis J. Smith Outstanding Golfer Award
June 1st, 2009|
The law firm of Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin was founded on the idea of giving back to the community we serve. That’s why one of the firm’s founding Terre Haute personal injury lawyers, Attorney Anthony Tanoos, was honored to be the first to present a very special award a the Terre Haute Junior City Golf Tournament.
The Travis J. Smith Outstanding Golfer Award was created to memorialize the life of a sophomore member of the Ball State University golf team who died in a tragic traffic accident in early 2007.
The 2009 recipients of the award were both runaway leaders in their respective divisions. Terre Haute South High School junior Thomas Goss placed first in the tournament after following up a 305-yard drive on the par 4 14th hole with an easy stress-free birdie. He finished with a tournament record low score of 7-under par for the tournament. Rachael Welker, a sophomore at Terre Haute North High, was the female winner of the tournament with a final score of 78.
Both winners were presented with the Travis J. Smith Outstanding Golfer award for their top-notch play throughout the tournament. They were both given a crystal trophy to commemorate the award.
The honor was bittersweet for Goss, who was a family friend of Travis Smith for whom the award is named in memoriam.
