Indiana Man Injured By Drunk Driver Says Rehabilitation Key To His Recovery

September 19, 2012

The Tribune-Star tells of one Indiana man’s miraculous recovery following a motor vehicle accident caused by a drunk driver. According to the article, the man points to rehabilitation as the key to his success.

In 2002, the victim was sitting in his vehicle at a traffic light in Terre Haute, Indiana, when a drunk driver suddenly plowed into his vehicle from the rear. The impact of the drunk driving accident caused the victim’s vehicle to be pushed more than 200 yards before it came to rest, leaving the man with severe head trauma and brain injuries.

The man spent the next three months hospitalized in a coma, where doctors believed he had little hope of recovery. However, the man began to respond to visitors by blinking and squeezing hands. That is when medical staff decided to send the man to an inpatient rehabilitation center where he could learn techniques that would allow him to once again live a normal life.

Since then, he has begun to walk again and relearn other basic skills.

The victim says that through continued rehabilitation services, he improves a bit more every day, adding, “They pretty much saved our future.”

With this week being National Rehabilitation Week, the Indiana disability lawyers with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin would like to commend those who work so tirelessly to help improve the lives of those who have been debilitated in life.
