Intoxicated Driver Responsible For Indiana Accident That Injured One

October 17, 2012

A Terre Haute, Indiana, man was injured after being struck by a drunk driver last week. WBIW News says the incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. on Lafayette Street.

Reports indicate the driver was heading northbound along Lafayette when he suddenly crossed the oncoming lane of traffic, hopped the curb, and hit a male pedestrian. The man who was struck sustained serious injuries as a result of the Indiana Drunk Driving Accident and was rushed to a local hospital.

The driver failed a field sobriety test and was arrested and charged with operation of a motor vehicle while intoxicated, as well as possession of a controlled substance.

Experts say drugged driving seems to be a growing trend in the United States with the 2009 National Survey on Drug Use and Health estimating 10.5 million people aged 12 or older reported driving under the influence of illicit drugs during the year prior to being surveyed. Young adults were at the highest risk of this behavior, with roughly 25 percent of individuals surveyed between the ages of 21 and 25 reported getting behind the wheel after taking a medication that can affect a person’s ability to drive.

The Indiana Disability Lawyers with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin encourage drivers to be aware of the effects medications can have on a person’s ability to drive and to never get behind the wheel of a vehicle after taking such a medication.
