Indiana Motorcycle Accident Prompts Action For More Awareness On The Road

July 31, 2013

Each year, there are a growing number of Indiana Motorcycle Accidents that result in injury or death. In fact, the Indiana Criminal Justice Institute found that a total of 152 fatal motorcycle accidents occurred last year alone. This was a nearly 29 percent increase over the previous year’s tally.

One man is hoping a motorcycle rally and ride held in his honor will help to reduce the number of these accidents in the future. The man says that his life was turned upside down on June 19 when he was struck by a vehicle while riding his motorcycle along Home Avenue in Kokomo. The impact resulted in the man losing his leg and being hospitalized for the past several weeks as he undergoes rehabilitation. The victim stated the driver who hit him claimed he didn’t see the bike prior to the accident.

According to the Kokomo Tribune, a local motorcycle club held a ride this past week in an effort to raise both money for the victim and awareness of the importance of drivers paying more attention to motorcycles.

Experienced riders say motorcyclists should assume drivers do not see them and suggest wearing reflective clothing in order to be more visible to others on the road. In turn, motorists should slow down, eliminate distractions, and look twice when changing lanes or entering an intersection.

The Indiana Personal Injury Lawyers with Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin hope these tips are effective in helping motorcyclists stay safe when riding.
