Poll: Most would rather see cuts in Social Security benefits than state budgets

A recent poll shows more Americans would rather see cuts in Social Security benefits than seeing cuts to state budgets, ABC News reports.

Those who took the poll believe the cuts in state budgets would have more detrimental effects that cutting Social Security benefits.

The biggest opposition included making cuts to firefighters and education and adding state income taxes where they don’t exist in some states.

As far as collecting money for Social Security benefits, the poll found a majority of Americans support collecting taxes on all the money a worker earns, and not just the first $107,000. Another large percentage support trimming early-retirement benefits.
