VA Implements Electronic Processing To Process Backlogged Veterans’ Disability Claims

With an increasing number of soldiers returning from service in Iraq and Afghanistan with serious injuries sustained in combat, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs (VA) has seen drastic growth in the number of claims for Veterans’ Disability Benefits.

In an effort to solve this issue, the VA is currently eliminating the old paper-based processing system and moving to a much more efficient digital processor. In an article published by the Crestview News Bulletin, the new system will improve the efficiency of both the processing of claims and the gathering of information and paperwork that is available on a recipient’s current benefits.

Experts say that those using the new system can not only file a claim for benefits online, but they can also utilize up to 50 other self-service features that give them access to information on benefits including:

  • Pensions
  • Education
  • Home Loans
  • Vocational Rehabilitation

The VA is also hoping to reduce the number of backlogged claims by prioritizing the conditions veterans may be afflicted with and processing some of the oldest claims awaiting a decision first.
