How to Get Expedited Processing for SSD Benefits

by Staff | August 22nd, 2014

Getting Social Security Disability (SSD) benefits can be an arduous task considering the length of time it can take for a decision to be reached in a case. In fact, estimates show some applicants are waiting longer than a year to receive an approval or denial from the Social Security Administration (SSA).

To help address this problem, the SSA has implemented two programs to expedite the processing of disability claims. One of those is the Quick Disability Determination process. This is a computer program used to sort through new claims and pick out those that will likely receive approval. The system uses factors such as the applicant’s condition and medical evidence to make claim determinations.

Another way the agency is working to process more claims in a timely manner is through Compassionate Allowances. This program is based off of a list of conditions the SSA has determined are most likely to be considered disabling. Suffering from one of the conditions will automatically place an applicant’s claim in line for expedited processing.

Soldiers who are considered 100 percent disabled by the Department of Veterans’ Affairs may also qualify for expedited processing of an SSD claim.
