Indiana Battles Texting and Driving Through The “Drive Now. TXT L8R” Campaign

Texting and driving is a serious danger in the United States , especially among inexperienced teenage motorists. In fact, studies have shown that more than 60 percent of teenagers admit to reading or sending text messages while behind the wheel of a vehicle in the past month.

In an effort to prevent Indiana Car Accidents caused by distracted drivers, the state is launching a new campaign aimed at raising awareness of the risks that texting while driving can pose.

According to an article from WTHITV 10 News, the program is called Drive Now. TXT L8R. As part of the campaign, several scholarships will be awarded to the high school and college students who can create the most viral social media content using #TXTL8RIN.

Participants have a chance to win $5,000 in scholarships in the categories of:

  • Most Likes on Vine
  • Most Creative on Vine
  • Most Likes on Instagram
  • Most Creative on Instagram
  • Post with the most tweets, retweets, and favorites on Twitter

Sponsors of the contest include the Indiana Bureau of Motor Vehicles, Indiana State Police, Indiana Criminal Justice Institute, and the state departments of Labor and Transportation.
