Indianapolis Fined $80,000 For Safety Violations That Led To Fatal Indiana Truck Accident

October 9, 2013

Companies and other entities that operate commercial trucks have a responsibility under the law to protect those around and operating such vehicles. Failure to do so could lead to the parties responsible for an accident facing claims of liability.

The Indiana Truck Accident Lawyers with the law firm of Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin explain the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) recently found the city of Indianapolis responsible for numerous safety violations that ultimately led to an accident that claimed a worker’s life. According to an article from The Indy Star, the city is now facing $80,000 in fines in connection to the incident.

On April 8, the victim was part of a crew picking up trash. When he jumped from the rear of the vehicle to retrieve a receptacle though, the driver failed to recognize the victim behind him and backed the truck up over the victim.

An investigation found the city had committed several safety violations by failing to address worker safety and not abiding to national standards for waster hauler safety. Some of the violations include allowing workers to ride on the rear of vehicle at high speed and riding on a truck’s rear-step when the vehicle is in reverse.

The law firm’s team of Indiana Personal Injury Lawyers hope the decision will help bring some sense of closure to the family of the victim.
