Changes to SSA Policies to Be Implemented This October

October is upon us and with it comes several changes to the way the Social Security Administration (SSA) operates. That’s why our team at Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin would like to let you know about a few of the reforms that could impact your Social Security Disability benefits.

Beginning this month, the SSA has announced they will begin sending paper copies of benefits statements to working-aged Americans again. The agency had put a halt to the program in hopes of bolstering use of the My Social Security program, but floundering enrollment rates prompted officials to once again send statements on paper.

According to an article from the Poughkeepsie Journal, the agency has also announced that, beginning this month, Social Security Disability recipients can no longer pick up benefit verification letters at local SSA offices. Instead, officials suggest recipients use their 1099 tax statement forms as verification of their benefits.

The SSA has also said they will no longer provide Social Security number printouts. So if you cannot find your Social Security card and you receive Social Security Disability benefits, you should request a new card.
