FST&N is proud to announce that their very own Attorney Steve Fleschner competed in, and successfully completed, the Ironman competition in Coeur d’ Alene, Idaho on Sunday, June 21, 2009. The Ironman is a triathlon which includes 2.4 miles of swimming, 112 miles of biking, and 26.2 miles of running, all in one day! All of the events have to be completed in a 17-hour time span for a participant to be considered an official Ironman.
Steve began training for the Ironman in late December 2008. Generally, Ironman participants train for the various events at least one year in advance. Even though Steve is an avid biker, running and swimming those distances proved to be a challenge during his training; however, he stuck with his training by swimming almost daily and running all over Terre Haute in order to prepare himself for the competition. Interestingly enough, the day before the Ironman competition, Steve signed up for the 2010 Ironman in Coeur d’ Alene in order to challenge himself once again next year!
Although the temperature hovered around 40 degrees with the wind chill, and there was a cold drizzle during some of the bike ride and most of the run, Steve was able to successfully complete the triathlon—his first one ever—in the time limit provided, and is now and forever an Ironman! Even more impressive was the fact that Steve and his family continued to cheer on the other participants outside their Idaho home, even though the weather was almost winter-like.
The firm partners, associates, and staff members want to congratulate Steve for this tremendous feat, as it was an incredibly hard task that has inspired us all!
Congratulations, Ironman Steve!
