One goal each of our Indiana personal injury lawyers at Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin shares with one another is working to spread awareness about the things you can do to protect the safety of yourself and your loved ones in the event of a car accident.
With motor vehicle collisions being the leading cause of accidental death among children in the Untied States, we felt it pertinent to discuss why you should always use a child safety or booster seat to restrain your children in a vehicle.
Stock seat belts that a vehicle comes equipped with are only designed to restrain adults and may not be effective in restraining a child in the event of an accident. Indiana State Troopers suggest children under age 8 who weigh less than 40 pounds should always be seated in a safety or booster seat.
Also, all parents should have their child’s safety or booster seat inspected to make sure it’s properly installed. Data shows 85 percent of child restraints in vehicles today are being misused. The Indiana University School of Medicine’s Automotive Safety Program provides a list of locations where you can have your child’s car or booster seat checked out to make sure it’s installed correctly and provides your child with the protection they deserve.
At Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin, we’ve seen the devastating results a crash injury can have on a child, so our Indiana car accident attorneys hope this information helps you to stay safe on the road.
