Terre Haute Bicyclist Injured After Being Struck By Car

A Terre Haute Auto Accident involving a bicycle was responsible for seriously injuring one person over the weekend. Reports indicate the crash happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. Saturday night, along Margaret Avenue, on the south side of town.

According to an article from WTHITV 10 News, two cyclists were riding eastbound along the road when a vehicle struck one of the bikes from behind. The impact of the collision occurred with such force that the cyclist was thrown from the bike before hitting the asphalt. Paramedics then rushed the victim to a local hospital for treatment.

The accident highlights the need for the public to become better educated on the importance of sharing the road. In an effort to achieve this goal, the government has named May National Bike Month. As part of the campaign, information is being distributed to help both cyclists and motorists become more aware of their responsibilities when on the road.

Motorists should remember to eliminate all distractions when driving and focus their attention to the road. They should also look twice in both directions at intersections and yield the right-of-way to cyclists when deemed necessary by traffic signals.
