A truck driver was killed Monday afternoon when he crashed his tractor-trailer into a bridge in Putnam County, Indiana. According to Channel 10 News, the accident happened at 4:30 in the afternoon along Interstate 70.
The 65-year-old driver of the big rig from Columbus, Ohio, was hauling a load of acetone–a chemical nearly twice as flammable as gasoline–when he lost control of the vehicle, crashed into a support beam of a bridge above the highway, and flipped the massive truck several times before screeching to a halt. The driver was declared dead when paramedics arrived.
HAZMAT Crews worked for nearly twelve hours after the crash to clean up the acetone spill along the highway.
