Thomas C. Newlin was born and raised in Terre Haute, Indiana. He graduated from Schulte High School in 1967 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Indiana State University in 1971. He obtained his M.B.A. from Indiana University’s Kelley School of Business in 1973, and then joined family-owned Newlin-Johnson Company, Inc. In 1986, he graduated with honors from the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis.
Since 1986, Tom has devoted his professional career to personal injury, Social Security Disability, real estate, and probate law. His motto is, “Provide client-first service with integrity and always treat everyone with respect and dignity.” He is one of the managing partners at Fleschner, Stark, Tanoos & Newlin and is a member of several professional organizations, including the Terre Haute Bar Association, the Indiana State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, and the National Association of Social Security Claimants’ Representatives. Tom is licensed to practice in all courts in the State of Indiana, all Federal Courts in the State of Indiana, and the United States Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit. He is rated an AV Preeminent attorney by Martindale-Hubbell.
Tom has always been active in his community. He is a co-founder of a local philanthropic group, Guys Who Give, and a member of its steering committee. Tom also volunteers as a Teen Court Judge for CHANCES for Indiana Youth and has twice been awarded the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship by the Rotary Club of Terre Haute. Tom and his wife, Laurice, were the 2016 Hospice of the Wabash Valley Chapman S. Root award winner.
Tom enjoys skiing and he is an avid cyclist, having ridden his bicycle across the country five times. Over the past several years, he has passed his love of sports on to the youth of our community by coaching numerous youth and high school sports teams, including soccer, baseball, basketball, little league, and football. Tom also served as a high school and small college official for 23 years.
